MUSC 105X Music and Aural Diversity

Invites students to advance aural diversity (diversity of hearing-listening) as the foundational conceptualization and argumentation for sound, hearing-listening, and music, sound arts, and other sound-related arts, putting audience and community of aurally diverse listeners first and foremost. The objective is for students to challenge the tacit assumptions in sound and hearing-listening-related matters, with the focus on music, sound arts, and arts in general, which are still widely based on the ‘normal’ and idealized hearing. Students engage in original research, resulting in scholarly and artistic presentations.
