PHYS 80S Physics in Sports and Recreation

Examines how principles of physics are at play in common sports and recreational activities. Course is designed for students with no specialized background in math or physics. Considers applications of kinematics, Newton's laws, conservation laws, rotational mechanics, and some elementary fluid dynamics. Presents examples of the role of these scientific principles in real-world athletic contexts and explores how principles of scientific reasoning can help athletes distinguish between sound and unsound advice.
