HIS 198S Summer Humanities EXCEL Internship Course

This hybrid 10-credit course pairs an intensive Summer Humanities EXCEL internship with a practicum that helps students turn workplace experience into humanities-based analysis. Students treat the internship as a site of inquiry, applying humanistic methods to project-based work and documenting learning through field notes, work products, professional interactions, and supervisor feedback. Weekly work moves from description to interpretation and evidence-based claims, connecting site observations to course concepts on institutions, public humanities, and community engagement ethics. Internships require 20–25 hours per week plus readings, discussion, reflection, and a final presentation. Enrollment is limited to Summer Humanities EXCEL students with instructor permission.
