LIT 139C Diasporic Literature and Film of California
Survey of diasporic literature and film in California, with a focus on works from the 1960s to the present. Course involves reading texts and watching films that seek to showcase, investigate, and question what it means to be a part of diaspora and an ethnic group. Investigates how literature and film of the diaspora can both reflect and subvert conventions and practices of its country of origin. These works uncover and challenge stereotypes and unsettle conventional understandings of California history and society. In addition, these works provide insight into global and crosscultural exchanges between California and other regions of the world. Distribution Requirement: Global.
