LALS 139 Queer Indigenous Histories in the Americas

Explores hegemonic heteronormativity, gendercide, queer Indigenous knowledge, and historical queer responses against the colonization of gender and sexuality. Students have the opportunity to engage with different research methodologies via journalism, oral history, and queer archives. Core elements include the creation of queer archives and creative writing. Students explore their potential as writers via the creation of poetry, zines, critical essays, and queer archives, which they elaborate based on the class’s materials and their personal/community experiences.
