LALS 49 Chicana Political Organizing Histories

Introduces students to the organizing of Chicanas and Latinas, spanning from the 1960s Chicano Movement to the contemporary impacts. Delves into the emergence of the “Chicana Identity,” including its limitations, the movement from a feminist perspective, and the movement’s goals. This course encourages students to understand how a movement can impact culture, identity, and history by mapping the longevity of organizing histories. Draws on texts, podcasts, and videos to examine histories and understand how systems of power impact political narratives.
