THEA 31M Introduction to Aikido

Provides students with an introduction to the practice of Aikido, a contemporary Japanese martial art founded in the mid-20th century by Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei). Essentially nonviolent and noncompetitive, Aikido aims to achieve harmony with others, the environment, and oneself. Students who complete this course will be able to perform basic Aikido techniques, demonstrate their understanding of the Japanese terminology used in class, and apply the philosophies outlined to the physical practice of the form.
