ENVS 107D Natural History Field Quarter: Communicating the Natural World

Intensive 20-credit course with multiweek field trips. Students apply naturalist skills to scientific inquiry, ecosystem management, and communication, and cultivate leadership and professional skills for outdoor careers. Compelling narratives are essential to address current environmental challenges. In ENVS 107D, students develop professional communication skills including: informative and captivating writing, scientific notetaking, classroom and outdoor teaching, and nature illustration. With extensive feedback, students complete multiple oral presentations and written assignments structured to develop their voice and the power of their communications. Prerequisite(s): satisfaction of the ELWR requirements; and concurrent enrollment in ENVS 107A, ENVS 107B, and ENVS 107C. Course is open to all majors, but ENVS majors must also have previously passed ENVS 100 and ENVS 100L. Satisfies senior comprehensive requirement for environmental studies majors by prior approval.
