FILM 160H Film Genres, Horror

Concentrated study of films examining the horror genre, examining its enduring popularity, cultural significance, and evolving aesthetic forms. Through a combination of historical overview and thematic analysis, students consider horror's complex relationship to gender, race, class, and the body. Students engage with a diverse range of films across subgenres and global contexts, developing critical tools to analyze cinematic techniques, narrative structures, genre conventions, and audience reception. History, theory, and criticism of the genre are covered.

Requirements

Prerequisite(s): FILM 130, or FILM 132A, or FILM 132B, or FILM 134A, or FILM 134B. Enrollment is restricted to film and digital media majors and minors and proposed film and digital media majors.
